Feel Confident In Your Own Style

Wear Whatever The Hell You Want

People talk all the time about the importance of feeling confident in your own skin, but what about your style? As I’ve grown up the most challenging combatant to my confidence is my constant desire to fit in. I’m not afraid to say it. I get sick to my stomach when I show up somewhere in flip flops when everyone else is wearing heels, or show up in a dress when everyone else is wearing jeans. I’m writing this and growing increasingly worried this may not be a wide spread anxiety people have. But if you’re anything like me….keep reading.

It’s taken me over 26 years to figure it out. I’m not sure if it’s so much “figured it out” or “grown to accept.” I remember when I was in high school and I went on a vacation with my best friend’s family and we all went shopping together that I heard the best advice. I picked up a floral button down shirt that I loved but I said something along the lines of “I don’t know if my boyfriend would like this on me.” Her Grandma Mary said to me

“Do YOU like it? If you feel fabulous in it– buy it!”

That conversation was so simple but it really stuck with me over 10 years later.

I spend way too much time shopping and thinking about “will other people think I’m stylish” or “will other bloggers make fun of me in this.” Finally at 26 years old I honestly don’t give a shit.

I really figured this sentiment out when I was packing for a blogger conference this year and my favorite outfit of the entire trip was the one below, a black plain bodysuit and a pair of boyfriend jeans. It wasn’t anything fancy or beyond “stylish” but damn did I feel my most confident in it, and really isn’t that the only thing that matters. If you feel confident in what you’re wearing and you are feelin’ your look, then go for it. Don’t ever be afraid to wear what you love just because it may be against the grain, or too casual, or too dressy. Whatever your style may be, it’s a part of you and you should flaunt it!
